Local agencies want to optimize spending for highway infrastructure to match the needs of future driving technologies like connected and automated vehicles (CAVs). Researchers developed a reference tool and a separate literature review for use by local agencies to anticipate the infrastructure needs of CAVs. Agencies can use this tool to plan for infrastructure upgrades with an eye on the future and to focus maintenance activities on CAV needs.
